There is no ‘one size fits all’ in counselling. Each session will focus on the specific needs and feelings you wish to explore at that time. Your time. I use an integrative approach throughout all my sessions, which involves selecting a combination of techniques that are appropriate for you, from different therapy types.
I am currently offering consultations via video and telephone calls. Our first meeting will be a 30-minute free consultation, during which, we can discuss how you are feeling and what you are experiencing, while also giving you the opportunity to get to know me as your therapist and support.
Counselling Services
No two people grieve the same. Emotions may fluctuate from day to day or hour to hour. You may feel anger or confusion as well as sadness. Or you may be finding it difficult to adjust and move forward. Bereavement counselling allows you to explore those thoughts and feelings. Sometimes you may want to share how you feel about that person or memories you have with them. Other times you may just need an outlet for the emotions you are experiencing. Our sessions will allow you to talk freely and honestly and give you the support you need to navigate through each stage of grief.
Loss can be felt in so many ways. It may be from the breakdown of a relationship, the loss of a pet; or you may be suffering from the loss of your job, home, or your finances. When you lose something important to you, it can be hard to adjust and know where to begin in trying to move forward. Losing something or someone significant can in turn lead to worry and have an impact in other areas of life. Together we will address your feelings, the impact of your loss and how you can begin the process of recovering.
Feeling worried or tense is a normal response that most of us will experience throughout our lives, but constant or repeat anxiety can become overwhelming and debilitating. You may feel anxiety around something specific in your life, or it may be a more generalised feeling without an obvious cause or trigger. Anxiety can affect us both emotionally and physically and lead to changes in our behaviour, sleep, appetite, and our thought processes. Using appropriate therapy for your anxiety, we can explore your feelings, their causes, and ways to regain a sense of wellbeing, now and in the future.
Often, we end up looking after ourselves last. In a busy world it can be easy to start feeling lost or overwhelmed and when hurdles come our way, it is easy for things to feel out of our control. Recently you may have found that you have greater demands on you at work or home; your workplace environment or team may have changed, or you may be juggling a busy homelife with other commitments and the stress that comes along with it. It is impossible to control external influences but knowing how to manage our thoughts and behaviours in response to situations can reduce the emotional impact they have on us.
In a safe and calm environment, we will look at the factors causing you stress in your life, your thought processes and patterns, and coping techniques you can develop. We will look at how to make time for self-care and the healthy and positive ways you can look after yourself, that can be maintained through life.
Depression is a common presentation that may be triggered by life events, or have no obvious cause, often with consequences for both our physical and emotional health. You may be feeling sad, low in self-esteem, disconnected from others or feel as though you are unable to find pleasure in anything. Feeling like this can make it hard to find motivation and instigate change. You may find it difficult to talk to family or friends honestly, or explain how you are feeling, which in turn can lead to isolation and avoidance. Our sessions will offer you a safe, non-judgemental place to openly explore and come to terms with your thoughts and feelings. An important part of our sessions will be using the right strategies to help you determine potential causes of your depression to focus on making positive changes, challenging negative thought patterns and developing lifelong coping strategies.
Obsessive compulsive disorder can affect anyone of any age, although it frequently begins in early adulthood. The symptoms of OCD often intensify because of other experiences and influences, and you may find that your symptoms have become more profound and noticeable after experiencing a loss of control or stress in another area in your life. You may find that the repeated thoughts or behaviours you are experiencing are consuming a great deal of your time and impacting on your usual daily activities or relationships. You may experience feelings of fear, guilt and anxiety or struggle with exhaustion and poor concentration. Considering how to break the cycle can seem overwhelming and daunting, especially when you may have been experiencing compulsive thoughts and behaviours for a long period of time. But our sessions will explore the possible causes and triggers for your OCD, the sources of stress in your life, and, using specific therapies will help you to understand your thoughts and behaviours, rationalise negative thinking and find strategies to manage factors that cause you stress and anxiety.
